ABPmer at Offshore Wind Energy 2017

We are now in the final planning stages for the Offshore Wind Energy 2017 Conference. The event is being held in London this year from 6 - 8 June. Once again we will be teaming up with our parent company, Associated British Ports.

Jamie Hernon, metocean analyst at ABPmer, will be on the ABP stand.

Below he explains how our SEASTATES metocean information service supports renewables projects throughout their lifecycle.

The Value of Metocean Data

ABPmer’s metocean information service SEASTATES was developed in 2010. Its purpose is to characterise past and near-future wave environments to a higher spatial and temporal resolution than other market products, and to provide freely available reports on the accuracy of the dataset, to enable clients to make informed decisions about the data they use in their projects.

Our hindcast (past weather) database archives validated historic metocean data back to 1979. To make its predictions SEASTATES combines forecast data with in-house regional models and real-time observations. These forecasts are used across the marine and coastal sector and can be freely accessed at our SEASTATES microsite.

Since 2010, SEASTATES has expanded to include many analysis tools, and earlier this year we launched a tide and surge model (download the Tide Surge Model Validation report here) to provide even more detailed characterisations of the marine environment.

Whilst SEASTATES weather downtime express service is the established weather downtime calculator for both offshore contractors and developers, SEASTATES metocean information is also routinely used to inform feasibility studies and site selection, metocean survey campaigns, impact assessment, engineering design, landfall, offshore weather risk assessment and route planning.

If you will be attending the event, be sure to come and say hello to Jamie Hernon and Tracey Hewett. You will find them at stand N-C20, look out for the ABP ship!
