BSI guide published: EIA for offshore renewables

The new BSI guide provides an overview on undertaking EIAs for offshore renewable projects.

A new guide on undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for offshore renewable projects is available from the BSI website, developed in partnership with ABPmer.

While existing guidance each focuses on one step of the EIA process, the BSI's latest document pulls together the best available advice for each step into one overarching document. The guide, "Environmental impact assessment for offshore renewable energy projects", uses real world examples and case studies to illustrate good practice.

The guide addresses each step of the EIA process, including screening, scoping, impact assessment and statement, as well as mitigation and monitoring plans, consultation and stakeholder communication. It identifies key issues and makes recommendations on how these can be addressed.

The intended audience are those who engage in the offshore renewables EIA process including competent authorities, developers and their consultants. It is particularly relevant to members of professional bodies such as the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment and members of the Renewable Energy Association.
